LO3 - D1 Evaluate Codes And Conventions

One way that our radio show mirrors the codes and conventions of a radio show like BBC Radio One is that we have a layout that is similar to theirs. We open our radio show/script with our jingle, identical to what Radio One does. This is so that the radio show may transition into the major material of our show. Following that, we have an introduction to our radio programme so that people will immediately recognise the name of it, which, together with the jingle, will make it far easier for people to acknowledge what they are listening to. We also offer content that is divided up into several portions so that it does not become overpowering. Some examples include the fact that we begin our script with one of the Doncaster racecourse's events, the St Leger. When discussing the event, we begin by stating the date so that people know when to attend, followed by a brief description of the event so that those who attend know what to expect. This would be comparable to how the BBC announces the date of any upcoming events in the UK before telling people what they are about or who will be present.

We don't personally address anyone during our radio show. The reason for this is that our radio show is aimed at the broader public, which means we're talking to everyone and informing them on what's going on at the racetrack. When comparing this to BBC Radio One, they are comparable in that they both focus on addressing everyone, regardless of race or gender or ethnicity. This is to ensure that no one is offended while listening to the radio show, as well as that everybody who is listening in is included when speaking with them. When we were drafting the script, we made sure that we didn't bring up anyone in particular and that everything went in the way that we intended it to.

The background music is consistent throughout, ensuring that there is a sense of continuity. This makes it easier for listeners to listen to because the music does not hop around during the event. Other radio shows, such as local radio shows or Capital FM, may not do this because they may cut from the music to simply the person talking instead. There's also the fact that we utilised music in our advertisement. This distinguishes it from the main radio programme, making it easier to isten to the show and the advertisement, and uses a more energetic song so that it does not sound monotonous when people listen to it.

Finally, I'd argue that our advertisement sounds real because it's kept brief, like most advertisements, and goes right to the point. We also include a small jingle/sound effect so that the advertisement is always easily identifiable, but we also get right to the point of what the advertisement is about, which is the Hilton hotel, which is what other advertisements will do because they don't have much time to broadcast to their audiences. Furthermore, we just focus on the most important information that consumers will want to know so that it does not become or appear dull to them when they listen to it multiple times.
