LO3 Proposal

 Proposal for Radio show:

Purpose

We are working on a radio programme which will be all about the Doncaster Racecourse and events which are going on within the Racecourse. Within the Radio programme, we aim to inform the public on the different kinds of events taking place at Doncaster Racecourse as well as encouraging people to visit the racecourse which will hopefully increase footfall at the racecourse. We will also mention the different kinds of buildings and improvements that are currently taking place. This will hopefully give the listeners a reason to visit the location. During this we will have relevant advertisements to positively reflect the racecourse. This show will bring awareness to the racecourse for people who have never been as well as bringing to light the large amounts of charity work that the place is invested in.

Target audience

The generic target audience would probably be adults as well as families as there are family oriented events which take place within the racecourse. Additionally, we plan on having an inclusive ethnic and gendered target audience as the racecourse is for everyone and we would like to reflect that in our program. This means that the amount of offensive language used would be minor if not non existent as we would like this radio programme to get the children excited for the events at the racecourse as well as the adults and if there was offensive language that the younger audience could not listen to it. The advertisement will also be child friendly so that people can listen to the show the whole way through. In terms of social class, this programme will be ranging within the A-E social grade as anyone is able to listen to the product at any given time. This will ensure that the show receives a higher listening rate from all different social graded groups. This will also mean that there is less of a chance that one specific ethnic group will listen to the product.

Scheduling

For the scheduling of our radio show it will be broadcast to listeners around the times of 8am to 11am and then in the afternoon it will be broadcast from 2pm to 4pm. The reason that we have chosen these times is because this is most likely when the most amount of people will tune into the radio and listen which will mean we will reach a wide scale of our intended target audience. During this time it is also when people will either be at home/on their way home or on their way to work/from work and a lot of them may tune into the radio on a daily basis meaning that a lot of people will listen to the radio show.

Proposed content

In the radio show there will be talking segments that will be discussing the events that will be occuring at the Doncaster racecourse. This will include the smaller events and the large ones to broaden our target audience as much as possible. Due to the time frame, some parts will have to be kept quite short, this will make more time for the larger events to occur which would be the main reason why people would be going to the racecourse. Another segment would be discussing the different charitable causes which the racecourse has which will show off the generous nature of the racecourse making people more inclined to visit. We will also discuss which events would be for families and the events that would be best to go without the children. This would give the public the most informed decision that they could make. Some examples of the events that will be happening at Doncaster racecourse are events like the platinum jubilee race day.

Type of Programme

In terms of the genre of our radio show it will be a community news show. The point of it will be to inform people of the events that are happening at the Doncaster racecourse throughout this year. This will hopefully get people who had previously never heard of the Doncaster racecourse, get excited and want to visit the racecourse for these certain events. This will generate income for the racecourse as well as doncaster as more tourists will not only visit the racecourse but also the wider area.

Running Order

First there will be an introduction after the jingle. In the intro we will introduce ourselves as well as explaining what we will be talking about in our time slot. After this we will go into the main events describing what they are to build anticipation and excitement for the events. We will discuss three events, The St Leger as this is the main race of the year and brings in the most people to Doncaster, second we will talk about the platinum jubilee which will be a special event put on by the racecourse to celebrate the queen's 70th year on the throne. Finally we will talk about the live after racing events which is where musicians put on a performance after the racing events. For the end of our programme we will  inform the audience of the dates of the events as well as informing them there are more events that we haven't discussed.

Jingles

For the jingles of our radio show they will be taken from freesound. In order to find the one that we want we will need to listen to a range of radio jingles and then choose one to use or create our own jingle. Once we have decided on the jingle we want or create or own we will then put the jingles at the beginning of our radio show and the end of it. After the jingle segment the advert that we have created will then be played, before then moving on to the main focus of our radio which is Doncaster Racecourse.

Budget and Potential Funding

The budget for this programme is £1000. This includes the microphone equipment as well as the software that we will use to put the advertisement and the programme together. We will acquire the funding for this by putting it on a crowdfunding website such as kickstarter which is where we could get the money from people who donate if they believe in the cause. Another way we could raise the money for the programme is by using advertisements as sponsors as they could pay us for showing their advertisement. This way we both win as their hotel is getting shown and we are getting funding to create the advertisement.

Appropriate advert ideas

Some possible advertisement ideas could be ones of different attractions in and around Doncaster such as Yorkshire Wildlife park or Conisbrough castle. More advertisement ideas would be different establishments where the listeners could get some food and drink whilst they are in Doncaster or hotels where the people could stay for the night or the weekend to really take advantage of doncaster. Other possible attractions which we could use would be Brodsworth Hall or Cusworth Hall to show the history of Doncaster or possibly the new Library and museum to show what is new to Doncaster. Finally we could have an advertisement of different events that are taking place outside of the racecourse.

Equipment/Personnel

Most of the equipment necessary will be so that we could record our voices clearly and without background noise. This consists of items such as:

Microphone - This will be used to record our voices

Microphone arm - This will be use to keep the microphone out of our way when recording

Headphones - These will be used so we can hear ourselves when discussing certain topics

Computer - This will be used to edit the programme as well as inserting the advertisement into our radio programme.

Active speaker monitors - These will be used so that we can listen back to the radio show in the way that a normal listener would listen to it.

The first piece of equipment that we will use would be microphones. These will be used to record all of the voices so that the listeners can understand what is being said. Otherwise the audience wouldn't be able to hear anything which is why this piece of equipment is vital. The next piece of equipment is the microphone arm which is used to keep the microphone out of the way so that the presenter can't tell that much that the microphone is there. Headphones will be used so that the presenters can have total control of the sound quality and can hear how good or how bad they sound because if they didn't have headphones then the presenters wouldn't know what they sound like. The speakers will be used so that the editors can hear what the public would be hearing exactly which would possibly make the editors change the sound if something didn't sound very good through the speakers but it sounded better in the headphones. A computer will be used to edit the show and to add the adverts and jingle into it the programme to complete the project.

For Personnel we will equally distribute the work so that we all will have something to do however we will help each other out if one of us gets stuck. Both of us will feature in the show as well as edit it so that we can help each other out. Whilst one is creating the advertisement one could create the jingle so that we can both focus on different projects to make the overall programme come along much quicker.

Legal / ethical issues.

One legal issue to watch out for is copyright to make sure that our radio programme does not copy any other show and that it doesn't include anything that is on another piece of media. This makes sure that we aren't liable for prosecution and that our programme is entirely unique. Another legal issue that we should watch out for is that we should slander anyone or thing as we shouldn't use any malicious or false content as that could lead to a criminal charge. There are many Ethical issues that we should consider when creating this radio programme such as Racism. Racism is when someone is discriminated against due to their religion and ethnicity and racism is also regulated through and it could have a big impact. Another ethical issue which i musnt bring into the radio programme is political issues as it could alienate a large proportion of the target audience as they could have different opinions to you.Competitions could also prove quite the problem as there has been many cases where people were caught cheating and could cause outrage which we wouldn't want.
